When a winch is all it takes
If your vehicle is off the road but still drivable, a controlled winch-out is often all it needs. Stuck in soft ground, slid into a ditch or hung up on a curb, the priority is pulling it out without adding damage to the bumpers, suspension or underbody.
How we recover it
- Assess the angle, the ground and the attachment points before any pull
- Use proper recovery points and straps, never bumpers or suspension arms
- Pull slowly and in as straight a line as the ground allows
- Check the vehicle over once it is back on solid ground
Don't spin the wheels
Flooring the throttle digs the tires in deeper and can overheat the transmission. If one gentle attempt does not move it, stop, switch on your hazards and call.

If anyone is hurt or the vehicle is blocking traffic, call 911 first. Once the scene is safe, we can recover and tow the vehicle.
Will winching damage my car?
The risk comes from pulling on the wrong points. We attach only to proper recovery points or strap around structural members, and we pull slowly.
Can you recover larger vehicles?
Tell dispatch the vehicle type and how it is stuck. Recovery is quoted from the vehicle, the terrain and the equipment it needs.
